The Traveling Spy

Hello, world! I’m Zulfikar Fahd, 27 years old, Indonesian (I know, I know it sounds like Miss Universe’s opening scene introduction). I’m an on-break communications consultant currently traveling (and eating!) my way around the world, one country at a time. This site began when I left my job in July 2015 and took off to see the world, having saved up money by writing for magazines, lawyering, and consulting for 6 years in Jakarta.

So why Outta Office Reply? During those years, I took so many vacation leaves that made my colleagues and clients receive countless automatic out-of-office replies, literally. No, I don’t feel sorry about that. And now in this blog I’ll post a different kind of automatic out-of-office reply, through stories & pictures. Those are the result of my “spying” activity. Yes, I’m going to spy the world with my cameras, eyes & ears, and memory card inside my brain. My mission is to find the right place to live the rest of my life, and be surrounded by the right people.

Below is a just-for-fun video I made to introduce you to this blog and my “secret mission” as a special agent (yeah, I watch too much FBI movies). You can watch it here:

Hopefully I can post in a weekly basis during my trip. I love writing about human interests, lessons I learn from my travels, fun/sad/frightening stories, and pictures. And to do justice to my four years of undocumented travels, I’ll write some throwback stories about them. So follow my blog, and share it if you like it.

All entries in this blog will be written in English. He’s aware his language proficiency is far from perfect. But he’ll keep learning, trying, and making mistakes.

  1. Can’t hardly wait for your amazing journey!
I want to do nomad travel several years from now, but haven’t read Indonesian who did this (maybe because of a lack of visa-free countries for us).
I’ve added you to my blogroll and waiting for your next stories.
    Salam kenal, Zulfikar πŸ˜€

    1. Hi, salam kenal Eky. I also wanted to do it 5 years ago, but I don’t why all I didn’t just pack my bag and go. Maybe because I didn’t have the money I needed. Thanks for reading πŸ™‚
